246 Seeds Collected in Tirunelveli to Strengthen Community Nutrition and Food Security

January 8, 2026

As part of the We Plant initiative, an impactful awareness activity was carried out today in Tirunelveli, encouraging community members to actively participate in seed conservation and sustainable nutrition efforts. The session highlighted how local, collective action plays a crucial role in building resilient communities and strengthening food security at the grassroots level. 🌿✨

During the activity, a total of 246 seeds were collected, including:

  • 223 papaya seeds
  • 10 vadham seeds
  • 3 sapota seeds
  • 10 tamarind seeds

These seeds will be used in local planting efforts to grow diverse, nutrition-rich plants, contributing to long-term solutions for reducing malnutrition and hunger. Each seed collected represents a step toward healthier diets, self-reliance, and sustainable food systems within the community. πŸŒΎπŸ’š

The activity also served as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of preserving local seeds, growing food close to home, and involving families in nutrition-focused actions. Such initiatives help communities understand that food security begins with small, consistent efforts rooted in local participation.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Tirunelveli DPC team and all community members who participated with enthusiasm and commitment. Their collective effort reflects the true spirit of We Plant β€” planting today to nurture healthier families, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future. 🌍✨
