We Plant initiative proposes a sustainable, school-led approach to reducing hunger and malnutrition in ZP schools π±π

A meaningful step toward strengthening school nutrition and child well-being has been taken in Maharashtra under the We Plant initiative. Our team member from the state has formally submitted a proposal letter to the Primary Education Officer, seeking permission and collaboration to establish Seed Banks and Nutrition Gardens in all Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools.
This initiative aligns closely with WePlant Indiaβs mission to reduce hunger and malnutrition by enabling schools to grow nutritious food locally. Seed banks will encourage the preservation and use of indigenous seeds, while nutrition gardens will provide students with access to fresh, healthy produce. Together, these systems aim to improve dietary diversity and promote long-term food security for children. πΎπ₯¬
Beyond nutrition, the initiative also focuses on hands-on learning. By engaging students in seed saving, planting, and garden maintenance, schools become living classrooms where children learn about food, agriculture, sustainability, and responsibility. These experiences help build awareness from a young age and foster a deeper connection between children, nature, and healthy eating habits.
By integrating seed banks and nutrition gardens within ZP schools, WePlant India envisions the creation of self-sustaining systems that support not only child nutrition but also broader community well-being. Schools can serve as hubs of learning and inspiration, influencing families and local communities to adopt similar practices.
We look forward to working closely with education authorities in Maharashtra to bring this mission-driven initiative to life across ZP schools. Together, we aim to create a lasting impact β nurturing healthier children, stronger communities, and a more food-secure future. π±π
