How Local Seed Banks Are Reviving Traditions and Inspiring Self-Reliance

In the heart of Dang, Gujarat, a quiet green revolution is taking root under the We Plant Initiative. Our dedicated team has been working alongside anganwadi workers, local shopkeepers, and farmers to collect and preserve native seeds, giving rise to community seed banks—small yet powerful hubs of change.
These seedboxes, set up in anganwadis and general stores, allow villagers easy access to local seed varieties, encouraging them to start home gardens, revive traditional farming, and strengthen local biodiversity.
More than just an environmental project, this initiative is about rebuilding self-sustaining ecosystems—where communities rely on their own resources, share knowledge, and grow together. It reflects the essence of collective growth, rooted deeply in the cultural and ecological heritage of rural India.
Each seed collected tells a story of hope, resilience, and renewal. Together, we are not just conserving biodiversity—we are planting the foundation for food security, sustainability, and community empowerment.
Because every seed carries a promise — a promise of life, learning, and a greener tomorrow.
