Interns briefed on sustainability, greening communities, and climate awareness ready to lead field actions

Orientation Program Ignites Eco Action: Udayan Shalini Fellowship Joins WePlant

On 14 November 2025, WePlant hosted an inspiring orientation session for the Udayan Shalini Fellowship (USF) interns, bringing together passion, purpose, and practical environmental learning.

Led by our dedicated team member alongside Dr. Santhosh George (Director), the session introduced the interns—known as the Shalinis—to WePlant’s core environmental goals: sustainability, community greening, and climate awareness. Through a mix of short talks, interactive discussion, and actionable next steps, the orientation equipped interns with the knowledge and motivation to take WePlant’s mission from the meeting room into local communities.

Key takeaways for participants included:

• The role of small local actions in tackling climate change and promoting biodiversity
• How plantation drives and nutrition gardens contribute to food security and child nutrition
• Best practices for organizing school and community planting events, and how to maintain saplings after planting
• Ways to engage families, anganwadis, clinics, and school stakeholders for lasting impact

With this orientation complete, the USF interns are prepared to support plantation drives, run environmental education sessions, and lead community based eco actions. Their energy and training will help multiply WePlant’s reach and deepen local ownership of greening efforts.
