My District, My Seed Banks: Strengthening Food Security in Ratnagiri

January 22, 2026

Under the We Plant India Initiative โ€“ โ€œMy District, My Seed Banksโ€, a Seed Bank has been successfully established in Ratnagiri District, Maharashtra, marking another important step toward building sustainable, community-driven food systems in the Konkan region. ๐ŸŒพโœจ

This initiative reinforces grassroots efforts to reduce hunger and malnutrition by improving access to diverse, locally adapted, and nutritious seeds. The Seed Bank will serve as a shared community resource, enabling families to grow their own food, strengthen household food security, and ensure better nutritional outcomes for children and communities.

Our team member Ms. Supriya Kamble played a key role in supporting this effort by engaging with the local community on the importance of seed conservation, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, and the value of growing locally suited crops. These interactions helped build awareness around how small, collective actions can lead to long-term improvements in health, nutrition, and resilience. ๐ŸŒฑ

Through such grassroots interventions, WePlant India continues to promote sustainable food systems, empower communities, and nurture self-reliance. Each Seed Bank established brings us closer to a future where communities are equipped to nourish themselves with dignity and sustainability.

Together, through the โ€œMy District, My Seed Banksโ€ initiative, we are planting the foundations for resilient communities and a hunger- and malnutrition-free future โ€” one district at a time. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š
