Seeds of Change: Growing a Greener and Nourished Future in West Bengal

September 13, 2026

Change often begins with something small—a seed, a child, or a community coming together with a shared purpose.

In Malda, West Bengal, the seeds of change are taking root. Our dedicated DPC, Ms. Ruma Chatterjee, mobilized primary school students to collect 100 tamarind seeds, turning a simple activity into a meaningful step towards greener surroundings, sustainable nutrition, and greater environmental awareness.

Planting the Seeds of Responsibility

The participation of young students makes this initiative especially meaningful. By involving children in collecting and nurturing seeds, we can help them understand the importance of trees, biodiversity, nutrition, and caring for the environment.

Each seed carries the potential to become a tree that contributes to local green cover while providing valuable resources for communities. More importantly, initiatives like these encourage children to see themselves as active participants in creating a healthier and more sustainable future.

From a Seed to a Growing Movement

As part of this initiative, Dr. Santhosh George, founder of the We Plant India initiative, connected with Ms. Ruma Chatterjee over a call to appreciate her grassroots leadership and discuss follow-up plans for nurturing the collected seeds into flourishing trees.

This continued support reflects an important belief: planting seeds is only the beginning. Nurturing them, protecting them, and ensuring they grow is what turns an initiative into lasting impact.

Every seed saved and sown can contribute to greener ecosystems and healthier communities. By connecting environmental action with nutrition and community participation, we can take meaningful steps towards addressing hunger and malnutrition while strengthening our relationship with nature.

A Greener Future Begins With Us

The collection of 100 tamarind seeds may seem like a small beginning, but meaningful change is often built through many such small actions.

A seed becomes a tree.
A tree supports an ecosystem.
An ecosystem supports communities.

And when children become part of this journey, we are not only planting trees—we are planting awareness, responsibility, and hope for the future.

We extend our appreciation to Ms. Ruma Chatterjee, the participating students, and everyone supporting this initiative.

Together, let us continue to Save the Seeds & Sow the Seeds—one seed, one child, and one community at a time.

🌱 Because every seed planted today is a promise of a greener, healthier, and more nourished tomorrow.
