Empowering children to fight hunger and nurture sustainability through the power of seeds and awareness.
On 11th July 2025, the spirit of sustainability took root at Prathmik Vidyalaya & Anganwadi Kendra, Matena (Deenapani), where a meaningful Seed Collection Session was organized under the thoughtful leadership of Ms. Sara Joseph (DPC, Almora).
In this engaging activity, ten enthusiastic young students came together to explore the importance of seeds — not just as a part of nature, but as symbols of nourishment, resilience, and life. The children actively collected a variety of native seeds while learning about the concept of “Nutrition Forests” — green spaces designed to provide healthy, locally grown food and promote biodiversity.
This initiative beautifully demonstrated how saving seeds today can help nourish communities tomorrow, contributing to long-term efforts to reduce malnutrition and hunger in rural areas. It bridged the connection between environmental awareness and food security, showing that sustainability begins with small, thoughtful actions.
Beyond its environmental impact, the session also cultivated values of gratitude, responsibility, and awareness in young minds. As one student shared with joy,
Now we know how to save seeds and why it matters!
The session at Matena stands as a shining example of how education can inspire transformation — turning curiosity into action and action into hope. By empowering children to become active guardians of nature, we are truly building a greener, healthier, and hunger-free future together.
